What is the North Adams Artist Census?
This 10-minute, anonymous, online survey helps us all better understand the North Adams creative community and to assess its strengths and needs.
Who should take the North Adams Artist Census?
If you are a self-described artist who (1) lives in North Adams or (2) works in North Adams (including going to school) or (3) makes creative work in North Adams or (4) regularly participates in the North Adams artist community, we want you!
Our goal is for at least 300 area artists to participate. We know we can do it!
What will you do with the results?
Like with the regular census, having specific demographic data for our artist community will help area organizations and initiatives better understand and serve our population. In the aggregate, this data will make sure we prioritize what our community really needs, tout what we already have, and track the progress we are making through future data collection. Specific data is also at the core of successful grant applications – so the more information we have, the more likely we will be to leverage new money for our area!
The survey is anonymous, so your personal identity won’t be linked with the data you submit or shared with others.

How often do you collect responses?
The artist census is conducted every two years. The first census was held in early 2020 (before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic) and the second in early 2022.
